Helensburgh Tennis Club win winter league Third Division

HELENSBURGH Tennis Club have won the winter league Third Division title.

A narrow 5-4 defeat to Bearsden on Sunday afternoon robbed the club of a clean sweep of victories.

Chris Robertson was named the club's player of the season, having won all his six matches alongside doubles partners David Reid, Stephen Lewis, Stephen Humphreys and Liz Wylie.

l MEANWHILE, the club is appealing for new committee members.

A meeting will take place on Thursday, March 29, at 8pm at the club to determine who comes on board.

President David McCowan said: "The club would very much appreciate members considering if they could assist by volunteering their services for a number of positions.

"In particular, we would appreciate any long-standing members who have not already done a term on the committee to think about joining and helping out the rest of the team."

The club's open day is planned for Saturday, March 24, with the coaching team putting on a day of activities from 10am to noon.

The popular voters and non-voters' tournament will follow the junior open day at 1pm.

This event pairs a senior member alongside an older junior and is becoming an opening day tradition.

The membership team will be on hand to collect fees and provide full details of the summer coaching.

l THE April school holidays see the return of the popular Easter camps which last over both weeks of the break. Sessions run from 10am to noon and then 1pm to 3pm. The camps cater for red, orange, green and yellow ball players and include tournament play, fun activities, technical and tactical coaching. They are not to be missed.

l TEAM members are gearing up for the new season with a series of match practice sessions.

The club has four senior men's teams and five senior ladies' teams. The ladies' first team will be playing in the west of Scotland's top league after gaining promotion to the premier division last season.

The men's first team stayed in Division One and new team captain Steve Losh will be hoping to improve on last season's position. The club also has a number of junior boys and girls' teams.
