Tennis ladies toast derby delight

HORNCASTLE Tennis Club had another busy weekend with both ladies teams playing matches.

The first team travelled to Woodhall Spa to play Tennis Buddies.

The first round saw Horncastle's first pair of Faye Button and Jane Clark win the first set but then lost the second to find themselves in a match tie break.

From 8-3 down, Faye and Jane dug deep to come back and eventually win 11-9.

Shirley Sutton and Jenny Golland won their first match 6-1, 6-2 and to complete the first round, Julie Hillsmith and Jane Reeds won on another tie break.

It was 3 love up at the end of round one. Faye and Jane won their next 2 rubbers with the loss of only 6 games in 4 sets.

Shirley and Jenny and Julie and Jane won another rubber each so the final result was 7-2 to Horncastle.

Sunday saw the Ladies Second team play a tough away tie against Boston's fifth team, with Horncastle player Jane Reeds making her second appearance for the club in the same amount of days.

Other team players for Horncastle included Jane's partner Sarah Dalton, Sally Speed playing with Karen Stott, and Sue Gillett together with Di Jones.

Despite taking three matches to tiebreak's, each of Horncastle's pair won one round, resulting in a 6-3 win for the home Boston team.

Horncastle's Ross Armstrong played in an U8 individual tournament at Tealby Tennis Club and won his round robin box.

He then faced the winner of the other box.

Ross served well, including an ace to win the final 11-9.

This is Ross's second tournament win this summer.

He will move up to the larger court at Mini Tennis Orange stage in September.
