Chloe earns a third title

Chloe HallidayChloe Halliday, of Westside LTC, continued her recent success by winning the 18 and under girls singles title at the nearby Wimbledon Club's Whitsun Junior Tournament.   Mike Sinclair reports.

Unseeded Chloe beat second seed Farah Abdel-Aziz, a regular on the senior AEGON British Tour this year, in the final of the LTA Grade 3 event.

Playing in the shadow of the nearby All England Club, Chloe triumphed 7-5, 6-0 over Stockton-on-Tees based Abdel-Aziz, a member of the LTA AEGON Future Stars programme.

Chloe, ranked fourth in Surrey at 14 and under, was conceding four years to some of her rivals.

In the semi-finals she overcame Westside clubmate Michaela Knepsl, ranked fourth in the county at 18 and under. Halliday was leading 7-5, 3-0 when Knepsl retired injured.

The title was Halliday's third in less than a month following her double success at the Surrey LTA Winter Postal Championships where she won the 14 and under and 16 and under singles on finals day at the National Tennis Centre at Roehampton in May.
