Shaky start for the ladies at Cheam Fields' Astroturf courts today. We lost both of our first matches - Mercedes and Nina lost in a championship tie-break, despite having three match points and Lenka and Karin saved 5 match points at 3-5 before eventually losing the 2nd set tiebreak.

Second matches went a bit better, Lenka and Karin won their 6-0 6-0 and Merche and Nina were 6-1 5-0 up at that point...all looked easy! Until they lost the second set 5-7...and off they went into another championship tie-break! It was painful to watch but they did win it and we managed to pull a draw. 

Noone else has logged their matches yet so we are on top of the league - ha!

It was an easy win for us today, at home and we have jumped on top of the league again, leading over Cheam Fields by game difference...need to keep that up as they seem to be winning, too! Nina & Karin hardly lost a point today and Michele and Lenka were only a couple of games behind them... Second matches got interrupted by rain and we decided to eat first, having to then finish the matches on court four with full bellies... opposition deemed the acrylic too slippery! But all good and we have a new player starting in July - Silvia - who stepped in for Mercedes who is working for once! :-) Next match at home again on Wimbledon ladies finals day - the 11th July.

Match at home against Wilton didn't start very well as Silvia had to cancel last minute with her baby being in hospital. Fortunately Anna Thompson was at home and didn't have any plans so we managed to get a 4:0 win without losing a set! Karin and Lenka lost only 7 games and Nina and Anna weren't far behind.  Still leading a league by game difference but next match at Cranleigh will be difficult - playing their first team and will be missing Merche and Nina.

19th July 2015

Away match at Cranleigh Merton Park ended up 4:0 to us! Lenka and Karin won both matches in straight sets and ladies league first timer Silviya with Esme also won both of their matches, first one in a championship tiebreak after losing the first set 6-1...that's before Silviya got used to playing matches again! After this day, she will always be known as the "dropshot" legend with a great tactic of hitting the first few returns down the line really hard to force both ladies to stay back...and then just constantly drop shotting them with perfectly measured droppies! Anyway it was fun and it is a really nice club with a lot of greenery around and space to sit outside, we had a great lunch, too. Would love to go back but might have to leave the Merton ladies in division 12 as we are looking good to go up. Last match is against Selsdon at their club on 13th September.

A relatively easy match at Selsdon - Nina with Silviya and Lenka with Karin, none of us lost a set. We comfortably top div 12 East and next summer it's off to div 10!
